Frequently Asked Questions

What if my student is absent from school?

Please call the school office at 928-865-7290 to report an absence or leave a message at any time. Please state the reason for your absence. If your student is ill, please give specific details as the state requires us to report illness symptoms. If you do not report your student's absence to the Metcalf office, we will consider the absence unexcused. An phone call will be placed to all students whose absence has not been verified. Always call the school office, even if you have spoken to your student's teacher.

What if my child is tardy?

We encourage promptness since tardies affect everyone and disrupt classroom time. If you know you will be late for school, please call ahead to the main office. Late students must report to the office and sign in as late. Afterward, we will issue the student a "Tardy Slip" before he/she goes to class.

Where can I find lost and found items?

Our Lost and Found for clothes, backpacks, and lunch boxes etc.is located in the MPR near the music room. Small items such as jewelry, toys, electronic items, etc. are kept in the office. Please check with one of the secretaries to claim these items. PLEASE write your child's name in coats and hats, lunch boxes, etc. so that they can be returned to their owners.

How do I become a volunteer?

Metcalf Elementary welcomes volunteers to the classrooms, office, school programs, and school grounds. Your time and services are irreplaceable. As a volunteer, you will work with the direction of the faculty to support their ultimate goal of meeting the educational needs of the children. All volunteers must be board approved. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Metcalf Office to obtain the appropriate paperwork.

Please keep in mind that you will be providing a service to students. As a courtesy to others, young children will not be allowed to accompany volunteers to school.

My student has medication needs during the day. What do I need to do?

All over the counter medication (including topical creams, cough drops, Tylenol and other various over the counter drugs) must have an official district "Medication Consent" form. Any prescription medicine must be in a container with the prescription label. In addition, a “Parent Consent” form must be signed before prescription medicine will be distributed.

What is the process for sending notes or money to school?

Students should give all notes and money to the teacher in the morning. Money should be in a Ziploc bag or envelope with the student's name and teacher's name on it. Teachers then send all notes, bus pass requests, and money to the office to be processed. Please include first and last student names when writing notes and put teacher's name on the note also.

I want to visit my child's classroom. Do I need to check in the front office first?

We love guests and want them to see the great things happening in our classrooms. However, unexpected visitors can be disruptive to the learning environment. Therefore, we ask that you make prior arrangements before coming to the classroom. If arrangements are made, you will check in the front office for a visitor pass before proceeding to the classroom.
